Rock put in filter for saltwater aquarium?

Hi there
I am moving away and unfortunatley need to get rid of my lovely saltwater aqaurium.
I have a 30 gallon tank, that had two percula clownfish living in it, as well as 4 snails.
I gave my clownfish away to a friend a few weeks ago.
I am trying to take apart the tank which is heartbreaking b/c I loved my fish and spent a lot of money putting it together.
I have a rock (or maybe coral?) that I put in the filter system as advised by the pet shop. It has grown much larger than when I bought it and the fish 2 years ago.
It has also since turned a purpleish color.
I am unsure of what kind of rock it is and am wondering if I could possibly sell it back to the aquarium store I bought it from?
Also, would I be able to resell some of my equipment? It's all in very good like new condition. If so, where?

it sounds like "live rock" and the purple stuff is good! its called coraline--it means its healthy. you could put it on craigslist or just call a petstore and see what they say. Sorry you have to break your tank down!
