are they okay?

why are my fish scared of the air stone when the bubbles go up? and are airstones okay for one gallon tanks? do u still hav to hav a pump if u hav the "penn-plax smallworld filter and aquarium kit" ?(i got tat because my fish were scared of the bubble stone.

A Penn-Plax Smallworld filter will actually filter the water, which an airstone won't do (so it's a plus). You will need an air pump to make it work though, but if you install an adjustment valve, you'll also be able to regulate how strong the output will be (you will be able to adjust it so it puts out only a minimum of bubbles, or a lot of bigger bubbles)--plus if you get the filter media with carbon it in, it'll take out some of the smells. The filter itself will allow the pro-bacteria that nullify ammonia/nitrites too (but you'll need to replace the filter media regularly or it can become lethal with the buildup). A 1 gal. is a tiny tank which won't be able to handle more than a couple very small fish no matter what, and you'll need to do water changes a couple times of week so the fish don't get poisoned by their own excretions.
