Is it safe to buy a cat from a pet store instead of the Humane Society?

I got my cat from Chow Hound Pet Supply. He was there from the Humane Society. Does this mean that nobody wanted him when he was at the humane society? Or does this mean that he has a lot of problems that he could not be adopted there? Why does the Humane society give animals to pet supply stores in the area? Thanks!

Many feed stores and pet stores like Petco have space where the local shelters can bring cats who need homes so they get more exposure to the public. The more people that see the cats and can actually interact with them, the more likely they will be adopted.
