4H What do you know? Alive or Dead?

Hey you guys, I have a friend who has a little bunny that they need to go to a new home. They are thinking about letting it to to a 4H girl. I thought 4H was right before FFA, where they take care of the animals and groom them up to show and then OFF TO MARKET!!!

Tell me I am wrong and this little pet bunny won't end up as a rabbit on someone's super table! What do you know of 4H?

Thank you all for answering my questions. You know I will never be able to pick the best answer, because you have all helped me so very much! I feel much, much better and I feel that the pet bunny will most certainly be in good and safe hands!

No No! There are three different types of rabbit 4-H projects.

The first one: I am in 4-H and I show my rabbits, in order to show the they have to be put up against a standard for the specific breed, such as the right fur type ( there are many!), how long the ears are, on top of good condition; the rabbits in this usually come from experienced breeders who know what everything is suppose to be like. There are many different classes for each breed, and at the end they give out ribbons and the 4-Hers go home with their rabbits. This is called a rabbit breeding project.

The second one is based on just the condition of the animal and I believe how well it handles/ you handle it. This type of rabbit is just for a kid that wants to show off their pet bunny. This is called a Pet Rabbit Project.

The third one is what you are thinking about, it is kind of like the breeding rabbit project because it is based on fur type and meat type such as firmness, etc... on top of condition. At the end though there is a big action at the fair and I believe that your animal is automatically entered in it if it is in the meat classes and usually the meat rabbit that won will get a really high bid, not because it will taste any better or anything but so the company ( it is usually companies) that buys it will get to be on the front page of the paper because they bought a prize winning rabbit for a record price. I know a girl who's rabbit won and then a company bought it for more than $500 ( for 1 rabbit!) and then gave the rabbit back to her because it was an egg company, so the girl took the rabbit home and bred it and got great babies. In this class, I believe you are never aloud to show a rabbit twice.This class is called Market Rabbit Project.
