Invisible fence with a chain link fence?

I have a dog that can open the gates on my fence so I am thinking about installing a under ground fence and a person from a pet shop told me I could put the wire from the invisible fence through the chain link fence. I am just trying to block off a front and a back yard gate. My yard has a fence up now. Can I do this or would there be a problem because of the metal fence I already have installed?
I have tentants so a lock is not a reasonable thing.

Rather than go through all that trouble and expense, padlock the gates. Dogs can't turn keys that are in your pocket.
