There is a substance floating on top of the water of my saltwater aquarium. What is it?

It has a purple tint and won't go away when i swirl it around. it is very dirty. Can you tell me what it is or what it might be?

You need to buy a protein skimmer which will filter the small particles floating around your tank. These are caused from live rock/ coral that has broken up which is too fine to be cleaned by your filter.
