I have a cockatoo who picks her feathers help!?
my umbrella cockatoo picks her feathers we have tried everything!!I will not put a collar on her we have taken her to the vet got her shots got her sprays vitamin's even more toys to make sure it is not because she is bored.So we play with her i feed her i change her water she even has another bird to keep her company it cant be from stress or boredom have had her for 5 years and has been plucking for 2 hole years please answer this is is important i love my bird and she is worth every penny i have please please answer this please.
it can be stressed. Although not every bird will pick their feathers, birds express stress differently my bird took her stress out on our tile floor especially the grout and on paint. It might be her hormones and need for a mate if its not nutrition or anything. Some birds do it if there is stress like loud noises all the time, changes in the house thats affecting her. You seem to be doing everything right. Question though does she seem attached to the bird? My friend has about 7 birds, 3 large parrots and 3 love birds. To take the mate stress out of the equation you have to look for signs that she has paired up with the bird (doesnt have to be same species my friends macaw is paired up with a love bird and mates with it too lol no babies though) look for grooming, food sharing etc. Just because the other bird is there doesnt mean they like one another, its just like humans if i put you in a room and throw a guy in there for you you may not like him and might actually be more stressed out about it. Birds can be very hard to keep thats why i stopped and went to fish =)
